I can’t believe it’s been an entire week since the member summit. Last Saturday, I felt so much hope filling the gymnasium at the Stand office. It was incredibly inspiring to meet with the dozens of passionate and dedicated parents who came and shared their ideas for public education and for their children.

As a group, we talked about the issues most affecting our children and communities, including the opportunity gaps that exist in Indiana’s public schools and a system called “complexity funding,” which shifts money from high-poverty school districts to more privileged ones, negatively affecting urban districts, like Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS), and more rural districts. We also touched on IPS facilities, upcoming IPS board elections and celebrated the announcement our 2019 Stand for Children Indiana Fellows!

If you missed the event, here are two ways you can act right now to help Indiana kids:

  1. Tell lawmakers to stop budget cuts in Indiana’s most underserved school districts.
  2. Send an email if you believe Indiana teachers aren’t being paid what they deserve!

The most important thing I learned at summit though was that when we stand together, we stand stronger. #StandingStrongerIN

PS- If you haven’t seen them yet, we’ve posted the photos from Member Summit on our Facebook page!
