As a sports fan, the day that the teams are selected for the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament is one of my most favorite days of the year. Growing up in Indiana, where basketball is a way of life, many of my friends and neighbors would immediately cheer (or jeer) when the likes of Indiana, Purdue, Butler or Valpo flashed across the screen with their seed and location for the upcoming tournament. This year, that feeling came a bit early when Stand for Children Leadership Center Indiana received notification that we had been selected for a different kind of “madness”, a “fundraising madness”, if you will.
A few weeks ago, we received word that we were one of 64 nonprofits (out of 130 applicants) selected to participate in Brackets for Good! Brackets for Good is a charitable organization that hosts online, bracket-style fundraising tournaments in philanthropic communities around the United States – including right here in Indianapolis. Participating nonprofit organizations compete to out fundraise their opponents, earn increased exposure and have a chance to win $10,000!
Each dollar raised through Brackets for Good equals one point and the winner of each round is determined by who raises the most money. This is truly an opportunity where every dollar will make a difference for Stand for Children! While we don’t quite know who we will match up against in the first round – we are excited to participate and engage all of you in the fun!
Tonight, I am attending a pep rally with the other nonprofit organizations selected to participate. The competition officially kicks off February 26th and we will be posting updates, with links to give, on Facebook, Twitter, and via email. For now, consider today the day when your team name (Stand for Children Leadership Center, of course!) flashed across the screen and they were playing in the Indianapolis region. We look forward to having you as our sixth man as we raise important dollars to support our community and family engagement efforts.
