IPS District 4: Diane Arnold
If elected to advance her work with the IPS board, Diane Arnold stated in her Stand Indiana candidate survey that she would continue to support measures to improve academic achievement and reduce barriers that prevent all students from obtaining an excellent education.
Arnold stated that she’d continue to support school autonomy and the efforts to recruit great school leaders. She added that while she supports the excellence of IPS’ magnet schools, she doesn’t believe a student should have to attend one to receive an excellent education.
“We need to work with parents, community partners and administration to ensure that every school meets high standards of educational attainment,” Arnold commented in her survey.
Arnold added that she believes great schools have great leaders and strong community partnerships; and that the welcoming presence and visibility of parents and community leaders in a school enhances it as a learning space.
Arnold serves as the executive director of the Hawthorne Community Center on Indianapolis’ west side. In recognition of her years of service to the State of Indiana, Arnold received the Sagamore of the Wabash – the highest award that can be bestowed by the governor upon a Hoosier.
