Award FAQ

By completing the nomination form and submitting your essay, you are consenting to your essay being used in Stand for Children materials or on digital platforms.

Submissions, both electronic and mailed, will be considered up until May 14th, 2019, 5PM EST.

Any student attending any type of public school (charter, traditional or magnet) in the state of Indiana, or their parent/guardian, as well as fellow educators and public school staff can submit a nomination.

Empowering Educator Award Campaign (the "Contest") is open to any teacher currently teaching full-time in any grade preK-12 public school within the state of Indiana. Any Indiana preK-12 public school student or parent of a such a student may submit a nomination. Students under the age of 18 who wish to submit a nomination must also obtain the consent of a parent or guardian. Employees of the Sponsor and other companies associated with the promotion of the Contest, and their respective parents, subsidiaries, affiliates and advertising and promotion agencies as well as the immediate family (spouse, parents, siblings, and children) and household members of each such employee are not eligible to submit nominations or receive an award. The Contest is subject to federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

Tell us in 500 words or less about how your teacher has changed your life (or your students' lives). Make sure to tell us why this teacher deserves this award and how they are impacting the lives of children in their classroom.

For children who are not yet writing that wish to submit a nomination, videos as well as parent-written essays will be accepted.

  1. Teachers currently teaching full-time in grades PreK-12 at a public school in Indiana.
  2. The best candidates should show significant, positive impact on their students' growth and learning. The best essays provide great examples of how the nominee empowers students and changes lives.
  3. A teacher who will be able to put Donors Choose credits to good use during the 2019-2020 school year!

If you wish to submit a video nomination, the video needs to be no more than three minutes. You can submit on the nomination form via a link. Your video will have to be uploaded to a private platform first such as Google Drive or YouTube!

Yes, Stand for Children Indiana will reach out to any teacher nominated via email, if it's provided or publicly available.

Include a linked photo via the form as a link or send any photos to If you email the photo, please include: your name, the name of the teacher you nominated and the date your nomination was submitted.

Submissions may be mailed if they are post-marked by May 10, 2019. Mailed submissions must include your full name, ZIP code, and email address, the teacher you are nominating, their school and their full name. Please mail all submissions to:

All submissions will be considered by a group of Stand for Children employees who have not submitted a nomination.

If your essay is chosen as a finalist, you’ll be notified in May. All selected essays will be posted on the Stand Indiana website.

The winner will be chosen by a public vote May 26 - June 1. Anyone who has submitted a nomination will be notified when voting has opened.

If your teacher is selected as a finalist, they will be notified by Stand for Children Indiana. Your essay or video will be posted on our website in May. During the final week of May, a public vote will determine Stand for Children Indiana’s first Empowering Educator Award Winner.

Because the vote will be open to the public, feel free to share our social posts during this time and encourage your friends, family members and classmates to participate.

If your teacher is the first-place winner:

  1. A trophy or plaque
  2. Public recognition including media.
  3. A $1,500 credit

Runners-up will receive the following:

  • 2nd Place: 800 credit, certificate of recognition
  • 3rd Place 600 credit, certificate of recognition
  • 4th Place 300 credit, certificate of recognition
  • 5th Place 200 credit, certificate of recognition
  • 6th place 100 credit, certificate of recognition
