In fifth grade, Kayla Valenti’s teacher encouraged her to teach long division to her classmates. In that moment, she decided that she wanted to become a teacher and pursue education as her lifelong passion.
Kayla began her career in education as a fifth-grade teacher in Gary, Indiana. Following her time in the classroom, she worked as a teacher performance coach for Teach For America Chicago-Northwest Indiana. While in graduate school, Kayla participated in Stand Illinois’ Policy Fellowship. She continued her work with Stand as a Policy and Advocacy Fellow through Leadership for Educational Equity.
Kayla recently received her Master’s degree from Loyola University Chicago in Cultural and Educational Policy Studies with a concentration in the Sociology of Education. She graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education.
Kayla lives in Chicago with her husband and dog, Lucy. She enjoys reading and running alongside Lake Michigan.
