School funding has been a priority issue for us each and every year that I’ve worked at Stand. Illinois’ Evidence-Based School Funding formula creates a highly equitable framework so that new education dollars go to the most underfunded schools.
But that’s the thing…it relies on new education funding. Education was flat-funded last year due to the pandemic’s impact on the State budget, putting no new dollars into the system for the first time.
With schools and the broader economy stirring to life, it’s time to recommit ourselves to the goal of boosting school funding in the most equitable way possible. Working together, we must underline the need for new investment in Illinois classrooms in the State budget.
Tell Springfield: keep up the fight for equitable school funding!
Investing in Evidence-Based Funding is critical to ensure schools have stable, reliable funding that can sustainably fund schools year after year. The last thing schools need now, as we begin to emerge from the pandemic, is more uncertainty. Especially about something as vital and basic like funding.
Let’s work together and remind lawmakers that Illinois’ future lies in our students. We must continue investing in our schools and boost education funding in the upcoming budget.
