I have excellent news to share: Gov. JB Pritzker has thrown his support behind an increase to K-12 education funding!
State revenues are outpacing expectations, and we appreciate that the Governor has identified education as a priority for the funding. We also appreciate the many legislators across both parties who have been vocal advocates for increasing Evidence-Based Funding for schools since the budget talks began three months ago.
When Evidence-Based School funding passed in 2017, it came with a strong bipartisan commitment to add $350 million each year until schools are fully funded. If we are ever to close the equity gap and adequately fund education, prioritizing the Evidence-Based Funding payment increase is critical.
We can’t celebrate until the final budget passes, but it sure looks like our leaders are pulling in the same direction.
Let’s thank Gov. Pritzker for committing to increased education funding!
I know that with advocates like you, we’ll continue to make an impact for all Illinois children. Our collective voice will show that we are paying attention and we support adequate funding for public education. Thank you for standing with us.
