Two years ago, I was eager to find a way to get more involved in my kids’ educations. That’s when I found out Stand for Children was hosting a parent engagement workshop at my neighborhood school, Harold Washington Elementary on the South Side, so I decided to go.
That day changed my life. At the Stand University for Parents program, I learned about the education policy affecting my children’s lives, and I even talked to the mayor and our local alderman about what resources our school needs for students to excel.
Stand has given me the opportunity to become a voice for my community. Will you support their parent and family engagement work by making a donation today?
I’ve become even more involved with Stand over the years. I spoke at a rally at the Capitol in Springfield (look at that crowd!) during the height of the effort to fix our state’s flawed school funding formula, and more recently, I’ve attended Stand’s resilience and well-being retreats, which give parents like me the knowledge and self-confidence we need to become leaders in our communities.
Every day I’m thankful that I joined the Stand family. I just wish more parents could have the opportunities I’ve had. With your generosity, we can make that can happen.
