Today’s the day. The Illinois Senate officially sent Senate Bill 1, the education funding reform legislation, to Governor Rauner. He now has 60 days to sign or veto the bill.
The clock is ticking. Schools across Illinois need certainty and stability regarding their level of state funding. They need certainty and stability about whether they’ll have the resources to open their doors on time.
Without an evidence-based funding model in place, schools will not receive their August 10 payments from the state. Many might not be able to open their doors without that critical funding.
SB1 is the only evidence-based funding model that passed the General Assembly. Gov. Rauner needs to sign it into law.
It’s simple. In the long term, SB1 ensures our children receive the quality education they need to achieve the American Dream. In the short term, SB1 ensures our schools open on time.
We need to get SB1 across the finish line to give our schools and parents across the state the certainty they need. I know you’ll help us get there.
