Chicago’s teachers and CPS reached a tentative agreement late last night, averting a walkout that would have kept students out of the classroom. Thanks to the hard work of union and CPS negotiators, Chicago students’ routines of the new school year will not change and the doors of progress will not close. Our students will remain where they belong, learning in school.

We are hopeful that the deal will be ratified in short order. Chicago’s students have been working hard, and it shows in the record academic gains made in recent years. Our students are even outpacing most of the rest of Illinois. But, they can’t learn if they are not in school, which is why this tentative deal is so important for their continued academic success.

CPS parents and teachers were right there the entire time, working to push students’ successes to even greater heights. They absolutely share in that success.

Now is the perfect time to show your commitment to your child by taking a simple but powerful action. Sign our petition, underscoring your support for your child’s academic success and attendance. Add your name to the growing list of Chicago parents and community members who know that students can’t learn if they aren’t in school.
