Just moments ago, SB231, a bill that aims to fix the broken school funding formula here in Illinois, passed with 31 votes in the state Senate. SB231 is a step in the right direction to solve Illinois’ inequitable funding system.
When our wealthiest districts spend as much as $30,000 per student and poorer districts spend as little as $6,000 per student, we create a state of haves and have-nots. Our unfair system has shortchanged kids across Illinois of the great education they deserve.
We can’t ask another generation of Illinois students to wait for education funding reform, and SB231 is a great start. We urge the House to work with the Senate to find a solution to our funding crisis before the end of session.
