We’ve been working with parents across the city in the run-up to this past week’s Local School Council (LSC) elections. And Stand parents secured positive results at a staggering rate: 57 Stand parents who ran for LSC positions won!

Now that’s what I call solid results!

Stand parents get involved for all sorts of reasons. To engage at their child’s school or advocate for programs that improve student outcomes. To lobby for policies that help ALL Illinois students or to speak out against inequity.

Thanks to their tenacity and dedication to all children, these 57 parents will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on their school communities once their LSC terms kickoff in July. Their seat at the table will give them a decision-making role in the day-to-day issues that impact the school’s classrooms and learning environments -- things like school budgets, improvement plans, and hiring principals, among many other important initiatives.

LSCs give school communities a voice for school governance, and now 57 Stand parents are in the game. This is an exciting time for our organization and our parents. We will be in touch with more updates as they continue to make a difference for thousands of students across our city.
