Jessica advocates at the state capitol for fair school funding and equitable education policies.

As Illinois continues to slog along without a budget, our elected leaders are back in Springfield this week and education funding is high on their agenda. Let’s make sure they know that we support Better Funding for Better Schools!

Yesterday, the House held another meeting of the Education Funding Task Force. After the meeting, members of the Better Funding for Better Schools coalition met with the press to emphasize that fair school funding can’t wait!

Earlier this afternoon, Governor Rauner gave his annual budget address where he outlined his spending priorities. Of course, our state needs a solid budget to fund vital programs, and education should be chief among them.

Governor Rauner focused on education funding in his budget address, but said he will not support the current proposals for funding reform. More money into our broken system only gets us halfway there. We need to level the playing field for all Illinois students.

Be sure to add your voice to the growing chorus of parents, teachers, faith-leaders, students, and other Illinois community members who know that the school funding system in our state is horribly and inexcusably broken. Our children deserve better!

We will let you know as soon as there is progress for the Better Funding for Better Schools bill. We’re expecting to see movement pretty soon. In the meantime, go ahead and send your legislators a quick note since this will be top of mind for many of them this week!
