Jessica advocates at the state capitol for fair school funding and equitable education policies.

Stand for Children and education advocates up and down the state ended 2015 with a flourish of activity, all aimed at increasing the fairness of Illinois’ school funding formula. What better way to ring in the New Year than to ring in a new way to improve our schools?

Our last month of action, or, #StandMonthOfAction, gave us a great opportunity to raise awareness about the unfair Illinois school funding formula. It also helped move the issue to the top of the pile for our legislators in Springfield, especially at this important time before the legislature returns for session later this month.

Our actions sure added up. Here are just a few numbers that show our strength during #StandMonthOfAction:

  • 454 new subscribers in targeted legislative districts
  • 6,302 engagements social media engagements

It’s pretty clear that when Stand advocates set their mind to something, huge things can happen. But we can’t let the spirit of #StandMonthOfAction stay in the past. We must harness that energy and passion to ensure our legislative leaders make the changes that our state so desperately needs.

This month is an important one for funding reform in Illinois. With our legislators returning to Springfield, now is the time to solve this issue.

If you haven’t already, sign our petition supporting school funding reform here in Illinois. And stay tuned later this month as the issue continues to develop at the Capitol.

Thank you for everything you do for Illinois students.
