Policy That Works
One critical way that Stand works to build better public schools across Illinois is by passing good policy at the state and local level. Our staff in Springfield and Chicago lead the charge on a platform that looks towards the long-term health of Illinois schools.
Here are a few policy areas we are actively working on:
Smart Funding: Our schools need adequate, fair and equitable funding wisely invested in effective programs that improve outcomes for students.
College/Career Readiness: At its core, it is the job of the public school system to prepare every student for a successful future. Every student deserves to graduate from high school with a plan for success, and our schools must set high expectations so our students can achieve this goal.
Quality Schools: A child’s ZIP code should only dictate where she starts – never where she finishes. We believe that every child in every neighborhood deserves access to a high-quality public school.
Great Educators: Teachers and principals who are on the frontlines in our schools are the key to preparing our students. They deserve adequate preparation, meaningful development and mentoring, regular feedback and support, and appropriate recognition.
