My name is Christian Mitchell, and I’m running to be your next State Representative of the 26th District here in Illinois. I’d like to tell you a little bit about myself and why I’m asking for your support.
After graduating from the University of Chicago, I started my career as a community organizer. I worked with single mothers like my own trying to provide a better life for their kids, students fed up with failing schools, families struggling with rising health care costs, and business owners trying to keep their doors open. It’s the courage of these everyday people that has inspired me to serve.
We’re still suffering from the effects of the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression, but there’s reason to be encouraged, especially in our community. The 26th District is a unique example of the rich diversity of the city of Chicago, stretching from Streeterville all the way to South Chicago – with a vibrant downtown business district, museums and tourist attractions, and a rich tapestry of neighborhoods populated by people from all walks of life – doctors and teachers, tradesmen and students. Ours is a district with great assets and tremendous people, but we have more to do to recover from this recession and move our state forward.
We need a representative who will fight to create jobs and a better climate for small businesses, to improve our schools, to keep our streets safe, and do so in a way that’s fiscally responsible. That’s my promise to you. That’s why I’m running to be your next state representative – and I need your help.
Why Stand is endorsing Christian:
Mitchell has devoted his professional life as a community organizer to help improve local schools and revitalize communities. He holds a deep commitment to improving public education, and in particular, finding mechanisms to export best practices to other schools that could benefit. We support Mitchell’s efforts to enhance community engagement and bring people together to find common solutions to improve education.
Christian’s view on education:
"We owe it to the children of Illinois to provide a high-quality education, no matter what neighborhood they live in. As State Representative, I will promote legislation to develop effective teachers and focus on early childhood education until every student has the tools to compete for the careers of tomorrow."
