In fifth grade, Kayla Valenti’s teacher encouraged her to teach long division to her classmates. In that moment, she decided that she wanted to become a teacher and pursue education as her lifelong passion.
Kayla went on to receive her degree in Elementary Education from Eastern Michigan University. Following graduation, she joined Teach for America and taught fifth grade in Gary, Indiana. After working as a performance coach on staff for TFA Chicago-Northwest Indiana, Kayla enrolled in graduate school at Loyola University of Chicago studying Cultural and Educational Policy Studies.
Kayla currently lives in Chicago with her husband. As she finishes her graduate program, Kayla is thrilled to participate in the Stand Policy Fellowship and enhance her policy knowledge regarding college and career readiness. She hopes to develop and scale her impact outside of the classroom and continue working toward educational equity in Illinois.
