A packed 2013 legislative session wrapped up last Wednesday. As in past years, education remained a major focus. A number of great bills we supported made their way to the Governor’s desk, yet there is a lot to keep us busy in our goal of ensuring that every child graduates high school ready for college and career.

We’re excited to report that Senate Bill 213, the Future School Finance Act, passed out of the House Education Committee late Monday night!  After making it through the Senate, it has just a few more hurdles to overcome before it heads to the Governor.

Colorado ASSET passes the House!

On Friday, Colorado made history as the House passed SB 33, or the ASSET bill that allows qualified Colorado students to access an affordable higher education.The bill, which received bipartisan support in both the House and the Senate, is now headed to Governor Hickenlooper's desk. It’s hard to believe, but the Colorado General Assembly has already been in session for more than a month.  Time flies when you’re working to make a difference for kids!

We’ve seen a lot of action on some of the bills that Stand for Children members identified as top priorities this session.  But several bills that could make a dramatic and positive impact on student learning (such as school finance reform) have not yet been introduced.
