FAQs: Stand for Children CO Advocacy Fellows

Parent & Family Engagement, School Funding | 01/04/2019

Danielle DeSantis
State Organizing Director

In 2019, Stand Colorado is providing an exciting opportunity for parents and community members who are interested in becoming effective advocates for fully-funded, full day kindergarten in our state. Read more information about this upcoming fellowship below!

What's the fellowship about? Stand for Children Colorado is recruiting parents to join our Fund the Future Advocacy Fellowship. The state of Colorado does not fund full day kindergarten, which means that not all students get the the strong start and support they need to succeed as learners and future leaders.

Why should I apply? We are building a team of expert parent and community advocates who can be the voice for this fight. This is an opportunity for you to learn about policy, advocacy, and the ins-and-outs of the capitol, but most importantly, to learn how to effectively fight for educational equity.

What will I get if I join the fellowship? Our hope is that the fellowship unlocks access to power in our state. You'll leave the fellowship knowing what it takes to build a campaign from top to bottom, how to persuade people to the join the movement and legislators to take action, as use your story as the most powerful tool in your advocacy toolkit.

Where will it be held? We will meet digitally, with 2-3 gatherings in Denver over the course of the 10-week program.

When will it be held? We will have seven required two-hour webinars. These webinars will be on the same day of the week, but we are asking folks to share their availability in the application because we want the timing of the sessions to work best for our families.

Who are you looking for?  We're looking for passionate, driven advocates who truly believe funding full-day K is imperative to making sure every kid in Colorado is on the path to success.

What's the application like? You can find it HERE. It's a couple of basic demogrpahic questions and four short answers. Please don't spend hours perfecting your response - we're not looking for perfect writers. We want folks with powerful stories, so please limit your responses to 5-6 sentences. It should take no longer than 30 minutes to complete.

What's the commitment like? We are looking for community members who can attend every session. While we understand that this is a big commitment, we want our fellows to act as a team and teams show up for each other. That means having access to a computer with internet during our sessions, as well as 30-45 minutes of homework each week. If you don't have regular access to a computer, we hope you'll still apply and Stand will work with you to find a solution!

How much does it cost? This program is completely free!

When is the application due? Please submit your application by Feburary 4th, 2019.
