Tell Congress to Act to Reduce Child Poverty

Legislation | 01/20/2021

As part of President Biden's emergency relief plan to hasten the end of the pandemic, he proposed a monumental expansion of the Child Tax Credit, which lifts more children out of poverty than any other federal program. We need our Colorado leaders to be part of passing this historic legislation.

Contact your members of Congress TODAY and urge them to support Biden's proposal.

According to the 2020 Kid's Count (a report by our friends at the Colorado Children's Campaign), in 2018, 150,000 children lived in poverty, or about 12 percent of all children in Colorado. Imagine how those numbers look now in the middle of the pandemic.

Thankfully, Biden's proposal will make an instant, transformative impact.  Economists, academics, and elected officials from both parties agree the tax credit expansion would effectively eliminate the most extreme forms of child poverty in the United States, by helping families that survive on cash incomes of  two dollars per person, per day. It will also reduce child poverty by 45% and reduce poverty among Black children by 52%.

The time has come to transform the child tax credit. The table is set for our nation's leaders to provide transformational help to struggling families. Your voice can compel elected officials to act. Contact your members of Congress today!
