Welcome to Issue #5 of our Summer of Learning newsletter! Every week we will be sharing a variety of activities, resources, and tips to keep your kids learning and entertained until the new school year.

This week, we're focusing on practicing critical reading! Reading should never be a passive activity. Encourage your child to think critically by asking them questions while you read together. Find these questions and more below! Keep on reading for more learning resources, free events in the Denver metro area, and at-home learning activities.

Check out this resource: Critical Thinking Questions

Whether your child is reading on their own or with you, they should be thinking critically! By practicing critical thinking, reading comprehension and enjoyment of the story can increase. A great way to encourage critical thinking is to ask questions that require your child to think creatively. Questions such as, “If this problem happened to you, what you do?” or “If you had to write an alternative ending, what would happen?” are great examples.

Try this activity: Colorado Counties!

Did you know that there are 64 counties in Colorado? Look up a map and count them with your child. Ask them to point out the county where they live and which counties they would like to visit.
