As our fiscal year wraps up and a new school year begins, we are reflecting on our mission and work. We are committed to ensuring our focus continues to be equity and justice for students and families in Colorado.
Our mission states, “Stand is focused on ensuring all students receive a high quality, relevant education, especially those whose boundless potential is overlooked and under-tapped because of their skin color, zip code, first language, or disability.”
To enliven the values of our mission, we’ve drafted a Vision Statement to guide our work in the coming year.
Stand Colorado’s FY 2021 Vision Statement: We envision a just and equitable education system where all students have access to high-quality learning including opportunities to feel safe in order to excel.
We believe empowered parents are key to dismantling the current system that has left underserved students behind for years, especially students of color.
Over the next year, in order to strive toward realizing this vision, we will fight for:
Increased education funding and ensure that resources are more equitably distributed and spent well.
Every student to read on grade level.
Well prepared, high quality and diverse educators in every school.
Expansion of high-quality pre-k opportunities across Colorado.
9th graders to complete their first year of high school on-track to graduate.
Policies to dramatically increase racial equity in schools and dismantle the policies that disproportionally lead to disciplinary actions against students of color.
We will work to prioritize this work within ourselves and our organization as well as the policies and changes we fight for.
We are looking towards our new fiscal year energized and committed to students and families in Colorado.
