Thank you to Director Dr. Carrie Olson and Director Angela Cobián for joining over 20 Denver parents and community members for a conversation about the search for Denver Public Schools’ next superintendent.

Parents and community members shared their expectations and hopes for the next superintendent. Here’s some of what they had to say:

“I think it’s very important that we have someone that everyone buys into, that align vison and goals, so that the team can move forward together.”

“It’s important that the promises made are the promises kept and that they come to the job with an equity lens.”

“I would like the superintendent to look for effective methods to ensure our kids with second languages can be on the same level as kids who have been here since the beginning.”

“I think it’s important that they have experience uplifting community, a prior relationship with community, and have demonstrated bridging teachers and administrators.”

Additionally, parents shared some of their top priority issues in DPS including teacher diversity, school funding, and mental health. Dr. Carrie Olson named that the Board intendeds to use community input to revise or strengthen the superintendent job description and to create interview questions for potential candidates.

We are eager to continue to uplift community voice in the superintendent search process.
