Stand Parent Advocacy Fellow, Tina Carroll, was named this year’s Legislative Champion Parent. In accepting the award, she reflected on using her voice for change.
I was taught at a very young age, in a house full of women, that the most important way I can use my voice is to share my opinions and ideas and to be okay with the fact that they may not be perfect. Because whenever I use my voice for a purpose, it becomes my own version of perfect, filled with meaning and power. It becomes my lived truth! Over the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to share my lived truth to help inform some, inspire others and most importantly empower individuals to put students in K-12 first. While this award shows recognition of my work done, please know this is just the beginning - I was only exercising my voice for a warm-up.
