Monday, House Bill 1393, “Effective Implementation of the READ Act” was passed again by the full House after undergoing some changes in the Senate. The Senate worked on the legislation the first week of May, passing it through the State Affairs Committee May 2, the Senate Appropriations Committee May 3 where they added the $1 million in funding for the Early Literacy Grant program, and finally the full Senate May 4. The bill is now headed to Governor Hickenlooper for consideration and signature.

HB 1393 strengthens areas of Colorado’s early literacy policy, the Reading to Ensure Academic Development (READ) Act.
