8/19/21- Denver, Colorado - Stand for Children Colorado (Stand) announced today endorsements for three candidates for the Denver Public Schools (DPS) Board of Education election this fall.
“These candidates have a demonstrated track record of standing up for students. The parents who led our endorsement process connected with each candidate’s stated commitment to approaching DPS’s most pressing challenges through an equity lens and ensuring that every student in Denver has the supports and resources needed to thrive.” said Krista Spurgin, Stand Executive Director.
“Throughout our endorsement process, we were thrilled to hear from a variety of candidates who demonstrated a commitment to early literacy, equity and supporting students and families across DPS. The candidates we ultimately chose to endorse, reflect our communities and represent dedicated leadership to ensure equitable outcomes for all students in Denver Public Schools,” said Tina Carroll, parent and endorsement committee member
Stand for Children is committed to ensuring that those most impacted are at the center of decision making. Stand runs a parent-centered endorsement process for those seeking office at the state and district level. All candidates are invited to complete Stand’s candidate questionnaire about their policy perspectives. Candidates that complete the questionnaire are invited to be interviewed by a committee of parents. This year’s committee of parents was made up of 6 parents and Denver community members who reviewed the survey responses and interviewed the candidates. Following the interviews, the parent committee used a rubric to score the candidates based on their questionnaires and interviews.
Stand is still completing our process in District 4.
