Over the last few months, we’ve been listening, researching, and engaging parents, educators, partners and policymakers to prepare for next year’s legislative session. It’s hard to believe, but the end of the year is almost here and the General Assembly will be meeting again before we know it.
Our team remains laser focused on increasing early literacy, high school success, equitable school funding, and safe and supportive schools and communities.
With that in mind, I am excited to broadly preview our priorities for the upcoming legislative session:
- Early Literacy: support educators by expanding science of reading training to school leaders and identifying opportunities to enhance tools to communicate literacy growth with families.
- Safe and supportive schools and communities: address disproportionate discipline of students of color and students with disabilities, increase pathways for educators of color to enter the teaching profession, and remove barriers to housing and employment for thousands of Coloradans by automatically sealing records of non-violent offenders who have completed their sentence.
- School funding: advance equitable school funding through updates to the school finance formula.
We cannot do this work alone. Just as we built these plans collaboratively, we are committed to championing these policies in partnership with legislators, parents, educators, and organizations.
We will keep you informed as the legislature convenes and let you know how you can help advance this important work for our students!
