The Colorado Department of Education (CDE) is preparing to review and revise the Colorado Academic Standards (CAS), and needs your input!  The Colorado Academic Standards are expectations for what students should know and be able to do by the end of each year from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Currently Colorado has standards in 10 content areas:

  • comprehensive health and physical education;
  • dance;
  • drama and theater arts;
  • mathematics;
  • music;
  • reading, writing and communicating;
  • science;
  • social studies;
  • visual arts; and
  • world languages and English Language Proficiency.

CDE’s first step in this process is to conduct an online survey to gather feedback from people across Colorado about what they think about the current Colorado Academic Standards, which were adopted in 2009-2010.  You can take the survey here until Sunday, November 13, 2016.

According to its website, CDE will provide a timeline for the standards review and revision process in early 2017.  We believe that the Colorado Academic Standards are critical to ensuring that all Colorado students graduate high school prepared for college and career.
