The early weeks of legislative session continue to be uneventful in terms of bill hearings. Although things seem quiet on the surface, we’re staying busy reviewing newly introduced bills, monitoring the House and Senate Education Committee calendars, and meeting with legislators as they refine bill drafts and concepts. Several bills that had been scheduled to be heard this week have been laid over to a later date. We’ll keep you posted as those bills are re-calendared. There are currently two bills related to full-day kingergarten scheduled to be heard in House and Senate Committees next week:
SB 16-023 (Sen. Kerr) - would provide funding for full-day kindergarten
HB 16-1022 (Rep. Wilson) – would provide statewide funding for full-day kindergarten.
We also anticipate that the House will introduce the School Finance Act early next week.
