On this day, we want to reflect on the legacy left by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Thanks to his convictions, individuals around our country united to defend the civil rights of minority populations. Nearly 60 years later, Stand for Children Colorado is still fighting for the rights of students. We believe that all children, regardless of background, race, or economic status, deserve a high-quality education. In order to succeed in college, career, and as a citizen, our students need critical thinking skills that allow them to solve problems and absorb information. In today’s world, education is not only a civil right, but it is also an economic imperative.
That’s why Stand for Children Colorado is continuing our fight—at the state and local level—to make sure our children attend top-tier schools with excellent educators and administrators. In 2016, Dr. King’s wise statement still rings true, "education must enable one to sift and weigh evidence, to discern the true from the false, the real from the unreal, and the facts from the fiction."
