Last night, the Denver Public Schools (DPS) Board of Education voted to place three high performing middle school programs in Southwest Denver. In the fall of 2016, Compass Academy will open on the Lincoln High School campus and Denver School of Science and Technology (DSST) and Bear Valley International will open in the Henry Middle School building. Stand for Children Colorado (Stand Colorado) parents have been calling on DPS to take action to improve schools in Southwest Denver for over two years now.

These parents have handed out thousands of reports demonstrating the need for better schools in the region, hosted rallies, community meetings and called for action at every DPS Board meeting. There is still so much work to be done to make sure that every child in Southwest Denver can attend a high quality school and receive an education that prepares them for success, but this action is incredible news for kids in Denver.
