Daily attendance is critical to a student's success.
The impact on learning for students who miss school can multiply year over year. Students who miss more than 10 percent of a school year are more often chronically absent in later years. Because of this, the learning gap continues to expand, putting children further and further behind. Absenteeism in later grades is also one of the best early warning signals for students at risk of dropping out.
Kids don't learn if they aren't in school and chronic absenteeism is a problem throughout the country. We work to educate parents and community members about the importance of attendance and to ensure that states and districts are collecting data on attendance to identify students struggling with chronic absenteeism.
