English Language Learner (ELL) Parent Playbook
Parent engagement is vital to the success of every English Language Learner. This is where Stand’s expertise can help your district achieve intentional and innovative best practices for parent engagement in your schools. This handbook provides an overview of our recommendations for your use.
Read a book on our digital library
In fourth grade, the school curriculum shifts, requiring students to "read to learn," which causes students who have not "learned to read" to fall further behind. That’s why we are excited to provide a digital library (sponsored by Unite for Literacy).
Research your district:
Read On Arizona's Smart Talk
Begin the moment your child is born, language and literacy starts with positive experiences. Smart Talk is for parents and caregivers of young children (ages 0-3) to gain a deeper understanding about the importance of quality, back-and-forth conversations. They have resources in both English and Spanish. [English] [Español]
One of our goals is for more students to read on grade level. We know that only around 4 in 10 Arizona students can read on grade level. This means 60% of our students are not! Those are some pretty sad facts. This challenge was flexible and easy in that children could read their favorite types of books or use our digital library (sponsored by Unite for Literacy), as long as they read for at least 20 minutes a day.
