PHOENIX, AZ – Stand for Children Arizona Executive Director Rebecca Gau issued the following statement in response to Governor Doug Ducey’s State of the State speech:
“We are encouraged by today’s speech. It is evident that the Governor has heard the message from voters loud and clear: it is time to invest more in our public schools. This sentiment was confirmed by the poll Stand for Children Arizona conducted showing 78 percent of respondents agree we need to do more for our students.
“This session, legislative leaders also need to turn things around by investing more in struggling readers to address the fact that too many of our third graders are not reading on grade level. One common sense solution we support is providing local districts the flexibility to adopt their own high-quality programs for the many refugees and English Language Learners in our schools, enabling to them learn English more quickly.
“We look forward to and are willing to work with anyone who will make public education a priority and put kids before politics.”
