Here's Anh's story:
Growing up in a third world country, Anh Tran was taught to take advantage of any opportunity that was offered to her. Thirsty for knowledge, Anh strived to take on challenges, and she eventually enrolled herself at Arizona State University. Because of her perseverance, Anh will soon be an incoming freshman majoring in computer information systems.
Throughout her high school years, Anh took a variety of rigorous courses on different subjects. She received several academic awards and became the salutatorian of her class. Although the classes were tough, she was able to narrow down her interests in what she wanted to learn in the future. However, her ability to take on challenges is not limited to just academics. Anh was a member of the chess club for four years of high school, and she even earned the title of Most Valuable Player for being the highest-rated female player in Alhambra High School’s chess history. As President of the chess club, she volunteered her time to teach chess and organize the important information necessary for the team to compete.
In her personal time, Anh listens to music, solves puzzles, draws, and reads poems. She also took her mom's words to heart: “If you are able to help others, give them the same opportunities that were given to you by someone else.” Anh spent her extra time volunteering to tutor children at different elementary schools in the district to help them be successful. She has great hopes for the future as she envisions herself building an orphanage to reach out to kids who are much less fortunate than others. Anh knows there isn't one straight road to anything, especially success. She understands that she has to sacrifice something for another or try different solution to reach where she wants to go. Despite her difficulties, she managed to get everything she needs to lead to higher education. Anh loves to help others to achieve their dreams as she heads toward the first step of fulfilling her dreams.
