Janey Pearl Joins Stand for Children as its Arizona Communications Director


Stand for Children Arizona, a nonprofit committed to improving education for all kids, is proud to welcome Janey Pearl to its team as their Arizona Communications Director.

Ms. Pearl’s previous experience includes serving as Senior Advisor to Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon, where she was responsible for English and Spanish media relations, working on education issues, and servingas a liaison to the Latino, immigrant, and Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual,Transgendered (GLBT) communities. She also served as Press Secretary under Attorney General Terry Goddard and as Public Information Officer/Latino Outreach Coordinator at the Arizona Department of Health Services. 

Ms. Pearl received her Master’s degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Education,where she focused on at-risk and traumatized youth. She is also a Sun Devil,graduating from Arizona State University (ASU) with a Bachelor’s degree inInterdisciplinary Studies and certification in Nonprofit Leadership and Management.

“Not only does Ms. Pearl have great credentials and experience, her passions for education and Arizona’s children are very evident,” said Dr. Jim Rice, former Superintendent of Alhambra School District, and current Stand for Children Advisory Board Member. “We are very excited to have her join our small – but growing team tospread the positive happenings in our public schools,” Rice said.

Ms. Pearl has been active in various community organizations for more than 15 years.Currently, she serves as a Board Member of the Girl Scouts Cactus-Pine Council and the Hispanic Outreach Alliance. She is also a current Valley Leadership participant and an Anti-Defamation League facilitator. 

“I came to theU.S from Mexico at a young age and was fortunate to have a world class education and great professional experiences,” said Janey Pearl.  “I beat the odds, but only because I had amazing teachers throughout the way. I want to help eliminate “the odds” and assure that all kids have access to a great education that prepares them for a successful future - that is why I am proud to join Stand for Children.”

Several organizations have recognized Ms. Pearl for her community involvement,including the Phoenix Business Journal and Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, both honoring her with their prestigious 40 Under 40 awards. She also received Valle del Sol’s Profiles of Success Award, ASU’s Hispanic Convocation Student of the Year Award, Class Marshall Recognition from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and is a recipient of the Gates Millennium Scholarship.
