Q&A and Additional Resources

When will I receive my child’s test score report?

During the 2015-2016 school year, score reports will be released to parents in the fall of 2015 (October/November). However, in future years, the goal is to deliver those scores to parents near the end of the school year.

These reports will be sent out via mail from your child’s school district.

How can parents and teachers use the information on the score report?

Score reports provide detailed information for parents about their child’s academic needs and strengths. They offer a starting point to guide conversations with teachers about where a student might need extra help or a discussion about what additional resources could support their child’s learning.

Teacher and schools can use the score reports to better coordinate and develop instruction, support students in their academic progress, and to benchmark performance across the district and state.

Here are some sample questions you might want to ask your child’s teacher once you have the score report.

Who else gets this information besides parents and teachers?

Score reports from students and other information is highly protected and will not be shared by American Institutes for Research (AIR), which administers AzMERIT, your school or school district, or the state with outside groups or the federal government.

AIR has demonstrated the ability and commitment to comply with all Arizona laws regarding student privacy, the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the Federal Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA).

Stand Arizona passionately believes in the effective use of data to support student learning and the critical importance of protecting that data. Data that shows how students are doing is a critical piece of information for parents and teachers in order to make sure our students are ready for college and career.

How do I understand what some of the AzMERIT-related terms mean?

You can find additional information on AzMERIT’s website here. Also, see our guide for how to read your child’s score report here.
